WASHINGTON (March 26, 2025) – Howard University women's lacrosse team overcame a halftime deficit to win its first match of the season, defeating Delaware State (DSU) in OT, 9-8, at Greene Stadium.
With the victory, HU won its first Northeast Conference (NEC) contest in program history.
Junior attacker
Tea Vasquez (Oakland, Calif.) led the Bison with six ground balls and three goals.
HU trailed going into the fourth quarter, 8-6, until a pair of goals from senior attacker
Marley Rhymes (Coatesville, Pa.) and freshman midfielder
Leah Croom (Miami) tied the contest at the end of regulation, 8-8. Croom finished with six ground balls, two goals and a caused turnover.
In OT, rookie attacker
Taylor Harris (Kennesaw, Ga.) delivered the match-winning goal to secure the historic win.
Graduate attacker
Sawyer Walker (Magnolia, Del.) notched eight draw controls and five ground balls while third-year Bison
Chase Coleman (Houston) added six ground balls and two draw controls in the win.
In the cage, newcomers
Taylor Williams (West Chester, Pa.) and
Madeline Willocks (Freeport, N.Y.) combined for 13 saves in the victory.
For DSU (1-8, 0-3 NEC), Zahra Gotz posted five ground balls, two caused turnovers, two draw controls and two goals in a losing effort.
Howard (1-8, 1-2 NEC) continues its homestand Saturday (March 29) against Central Connecticut State. Game time is set for noon at Greene Stadium with live coverage on NEC Front Row.
