WASHINGTON (March 26, 2025) – Howard University softball team hosted its second historic match of the week Wednesday evening, falling to No. 7 UCLA, 10-0, at National Youth Academy in five innings.
UCLA (28-5) opened the scoring when junior Megan Grant hit a double to center field, allowing her fellow Bruin to cross the plate in the top of the first. Grant rounded it out to home to extend the lead, 2-0, on the Bruins' next swing.
UCLA inched away in the top of the third with a home run across the right field fence, 3-0.
With bases loaded in the top of the fourth, UCLA's Jordan Wooley hit a grand slam; thus, prompting a change on the mound for the Bison, 8-0.
The Bruins added two more runs to the board, 10-0, before conference preseason pitcher of the year
Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.) posted another strikeout to her growing record.
Holt kept UCLA in place as she closed out the top of the fifth, striking out two of four Bruins faced.
Sophomore
Cheyenne Castille (Eastvale, Calif.) led Howard in the field with five putouts.
Next up, the Bison return to conference play with a road series at Maryland Eastern Shore, starting March 29 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
