FAIRFAX, Va. (March 11, 2025) — Howard University softball team went up against the George Mason Patriots (6-15) Tuesday afternoon, falling in a 5-3 loss on the road.
Despite a strong start with senior
Kenna Higa (Honolulu) scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning, the Patriots quickly responded, scoring three runs in the second.
Both teams would score a run in the fourth and sixth innings.
Kamryn Inman led the way for the Patriots, ending the game with two RBIs and two runs.
For the Bison (6-13), freshman
Lauryn Jones (Denton, Texas) scored a run and had two hits in the loss.
Grad pitcher
Ameenah Ballenger (Lansdown, Pa.) took the loss despite only pitching one inning, making her record 3-4 for the year.
Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.), MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Preseason Pitcher of the Year, came in relief to finish the game.
On March 15-16, Howard will look to bounce back as they begin MEAC competition versus North Carolina Central at Washington Nationals Youth Academy in D.C. Saturday's (March 15) doubleheader starts at 1 p.m., followed by a seven-inning contest Sunday (March 16) at noon.
