Bison looking to stay hot against Eagles

WASHINGTON (February 28, 2025) – North Carolina Central University (NCCU) hosts the Howard University women's basketball team Saturday (March 1) inside the McDougald-McLendon arena in Durham, N.C. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.

Monday (Feb. 24), graduate guard Destiny Howell (Queens, N.Y.) and freshman standout Saniyah King (Washington) each scored 17 points to lead four Bison in double figures as HU pulled away in a 70-60 win at Coppin State.
 
NCCU
 
Wednesday (Feb. 26), North Carolina Central (8-18, 5-6 MEAC) is coming off a 67-57 road loss at Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The loss snapped a two-game win streak for NCCU, which was led Kyla Bryant (12 points), Morgan Callahan (14 rebounds & 10 points) and Shakira Foster (10 points).
 
WHEN THE TWO LAST MET
 
On Feb. 8, junior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) poured in a game-high 25 points to lead four Bison in double figures as HU defeated NCCU, 81-64, at Burr Gymnasium.
 
NCCU was led by Callahan with a double-double (15 points & 11 rebounds). Foster chipped in with 14 points while Jada Tiggett added 12 points and nine rebounds.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
Howard defeated the Eagles earlier this season (Feb. 8), 81-64, in Burr Gymnasium for their second straight win in head-to-head competition. The Bison have won four-of-five and lead the series, 16-5, since 2011.
 
THE COACHES
 
Howard is led by Ty Grace (New Haven, '99), who is in her 10th season. The Eagles are coached by Terrence Baxter (Pfieffer, '01), who is his fourth season.

Howell is now 13th on the all-time Howard scoring list with 1,276 points and needs 41 points to move up to 10th all-time in school history…Howell has made 37-of-her-last-41 from the charity stripe while recording at least one three-pointer in all but two games this season...Howell is the only Howard player to start all 26 games this season…Howell is on schedule to have a career season in assists (58)...Howell has scored 20 points or more six times this season...Howell has recorded 32 assists in the past 11 games and 12 steals in the past six contests…King, the odd-on favorite for MEAC Rookie of the Year, has been named Rookie of the Week 10 times this season...King leads the MEAC in assists (125), dealing out 57 assists in the past 11 games…King has reached double figures in scoring in 14-of-the-past-15 games, including a career-best 25 points versus Morgan State (Feb. 17)…junior forward Nile Miller (Haddonfield, N.J.) has also provided defense for the team with 17 rebounds and five blocks during the past four games…Thomas has scored 41 points, connecting on 13-of-24 while grabbing 15 rebounds in the past three games.
