RADFORD, Va. (February 26, 2025) – Howard University women's lacrosse team wrapped up its three-match road swing with a 19-9 setback at Radford.
HU stayed within striking distance throughout until Radford scored eight times in the fourth period to put the contest-out-of-reach.
Grad transfer attacker
Sawyer Walker (Magnolia, Del.) led the Bison attack with 16 draw controls, five goals and a pair of ground balls.
Moments into the game, sophomore
Chloe Ronsholdt (Stafford, Va.) found Walker for the first score of the contest, 1-0.
Nearly midway through the opening period, Sawyer gave the Bison a slight 2-1 edge until Radford (2-2) closed the quarter with three unanswered goals, 4-2.
Newcomer
Aaliyah Williams (Frisco, Texas) scored her first collegiate goal and pulled HU within one, 4-3, but Radford responded with four answered goals to extend the margin, 8-3.
With halftime looming, Walker delivered a hat trick and kept HU in striking distance, 8-4.
Second-year Bison
Layla Collins (Houston) recorded an unassisted goal and trimmed the deficit to three, 8-5. Collins finished the afternoon with two points (one goal & one assist).
Radford went on another three unanswered goals in the third before newcomer
Kyla Newkirk (Durham, N.C.) added one more score to slice the margin, 11-6.
In the fourth, Radford outscored HU, 8-3, and pulled away to victory.
Freshman defender
Kennedy Johnson (Acworth, Ga.) racked up three caused turnovers while fellow classmates
Taylor Williams (West Chester, Pa.) and
Madeline Willocks (Freeport, N.Y.) protected the cage, registering a combined six saves in the loss.
For Radford, Evie Gee led the way with seven points (four assists & three goals). Defensively, Ava Lamanna racked up a match-leading 15 saves in the win.
Howard (0-4) returns home Sunday (March 2) against George Mason. Match time is slated for noon inside Greene Stadium.
