Okojie's Career Night Leads Men’s Hoops in Win Over Bowie State

Bison pull away with second-half charge

WASHINGTON (December 6, 2025) – Senior guard Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada) scored a career-high 17 points to lead four Bison in double figures as the Howard University men's basketball team pulled away to an 85-69 win over Bowie State in a nonconference DMV showdown at Burr Gymnasium.

Okojie is having his best season after missing most of the previous season with medical challenges. The 6-foot-6 Okojie, noted more for his extraordinary defensive prowess, has now become a scorer. He connected on 7-of-10 from the floor, nailed a rare three pointer and added a career-high four assists.

The Bison (5-5) set the tone early, bolting out to an early 25-13 lead in the first 10 minutes on the scoring of junior point guard Cam Gillus (Falls Church, Va.) with 11 of his team's points. But the scrappy Bulldogs (2-7) rallied with a 22-17 run to cut the deficit to a one-possession game, 42-39, at the half.

Then, Howard turned up the defensive pressure on the visitors with its full court press. The result was a 12-0 run that upped the lead, 55-39, at the 15:40 mark. Graduate guard Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) set the tone to start the half with a quick basket, an assist and a blocked shot that fueled the run.

Bowie State shot a respectable 48-percent in the first 20 minutes, including 4-of-8 from three, began to have troubles breaking the suffocating Howard press, and when they did, they were forced to take contested shots, allowing the Bison to get out in transition at the other end.

Okojie continued to make his presence felt, but now, junior guard Alex Cotton (Carrollton, Texas) and sophomore forward Calvin Robins Jr. (Chicago) began to contribute. The Bison were so dominant that Bowie State did not score its first field goal of the second half until nearly 11 minutes remaining in the game.

In the second half, Howard 58-percent (18-of-31) while limiting the Bulldogs to 21-percent (4-of-19), including 0-for-8 from the beyond the arc.

Cotton recorded his first double-double in a Bison uniform with 12 boards and 11 points.

Harris did not have one of his most productive nights, statistically, but he was still a strong factor with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot.

Robbins finished with nine points, including a perfect 4-of-4 shooting, and seven rebounds.

The Bison turned the Bowie State mistakes into 30 points while dominating the paint, 48-22.

Bowie State was paced by Jaiden McGhee, who led all scorers with 26 points, and Guy Fauntleroy (13 points).

NEXT UP: Howard travels to Durham, N.C., Tuesday (Dec. 9) to play an old rival in North Carolina A&T State at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Tipoff at 7 p.m.
