WILMINGTON, N.C. (December 20, 2025) – Graduate guard
Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) and junior guard
Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta) each recorded a double-double to lead the Howard University men's basketball team to a 67-66 win over UNCW at Trask Coliseum.
The win was the fifth straight for the hot Bison while the Seahawks had their nine-game win streak snapped.
Harris, a strong contender for MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Player of the Year, had his impressive stat line: 18 points; 11 rebounds; two steals and a block.
The Bison (9-5) were playing without team second leading scorer junior guard
Alex Cotton (Carrollton, Texas), who missed his second straight game with an injury.
Taylor, was playing in only his third game of the season after healing from a hand injury, had his best all-around in a Bison uniform with 15 points, 11 rebounds, six assists (career-high) and two steals.
It was yet another balanced attack that Howard has displayed during this current streak.
Junior guard
Cam Gillus (Falls Church, Va.), a transfer from Lehigh, is playing his best basketball, recording 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from downtown, along with five rebounds.
And let us not forget senior guard
Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada), a superb defensive player who has come on strong as an offense threat. He had another fine performance with a quiet, but important, 14 points and six rebounds.
The Seahawks (10-2) came into the game as one of the highest scoring teams in NCAA Division I, but the underrated Bison defense forced UNCW into 4-of-20 from beyond the arc.
Howard's formula for success has been the ability to knock down free throws (91-percent in Tuesday's [Dec. 16] win over Drexel) and to convert turnovers into points. Such was the case with this win as the Bison converted on 10-of-12 from the free throw line and manufactured 17 of its points off UNCW 14 turnovers.
The Seahawks were able to keep it close down the stretch by parlaying second chance points (20-13) and bench points (19-4). But in the end, it was the offensive balance and team defense that decided yet another victory.
Four of Howard's last wins have been by a total of 14 points.
UNCW was led by Patrick Wessler and Christian May, who each tallied 13 points, and Gavin Walsh added 11 points off the bench.
NEXT UP: Howard travels to Evanston, Ill., to take on the Wildcats of Northwestern Tuesday (Dec. 30).
