Women’s Hoops Hosts Bonnies Saturday

Bison look to stay hot against St. Bonaventure

WASHINGTON (December 19, 2025) – Howard University women's basketball team returns to Burr Gymnasium Saturday (Dec. 20), hosting St. Bonaventure in a nonconference clash. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m., live on ESPN+.

The Bonnies defeated Mercyhurst, 60-57 on the road Friday (Dec.12) for their second win in a row. St. Bonaventure was led Laycee Drake, who scored a game-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
 
HOWARD
 
Tuesday (Dec. 16), junior forward Sa'lah Hemingway (San Bernardino, Calif.) scored on a layup with 3.3 seconds remaining to give the Bison a hard-fought 66-64 win over Cincinnati at the Fifth Third Arena.

THE COACHES
 
St. Bonaventure is coached by Jim Crowley (Keuka College, '93), who is in his second stint as head coach withe Bonnies. Howard is led by Ty Grace (New Haven, '99), who is in her 11th season and the second winningest coach in school history.

The Bonnies rank second in the A-10 in field goal shooting (44-percent) and three-point shooting defense (26-percent) and fourth in field goal shooting…Individually, Drake is fourth in scoring, sixth in field goal shooting and ninth in three-point shooting…As a team, St. Bonaventure ranks 41st nationally in three-point shooting defense.
 
HOWARD
 
Howard is holding opponents to 25-percent shooting from three and allowing only 62 points per game…Some of Howard's success in close victories has been its free throw shooting, converting on 74-percent from the charity stripe…The vaunted Howard defense continues to be its staple, recording almost 20 points off opponents' turnovers while also averaging 10.1 steals and 4.2 blocks…Nationally, senior forward Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) ranks 12th steals and 42nd in steals per game…Senior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) is eighth in free throw attempts and 11th in free throws made…Howard is the preseason pick to win the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) and Miller and Thomas are preseason First Team All-MEAC selections…Thomas has reached double figures in a but two games this season…In the MEAC, Howard leads the conference in scoring offense and defense, three-point shooting defense, free throw shooting, assist/turnover ratio and both three-point shooting percentage and defense…Individually, Thomas still leads the MEAC in scoring (15.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.6 rpg)…Redshirt junior guard Zoe Stewart (Terre Haute, Ind.) ranks third in the MEAC in field goal shooting and fourth in scoring…Miller is second in steals and seventh in rebounding…Freshman guard Ariella Henigan (Chicago) ranks fourth in free throw shooting and ninth in assists…Monday (Dec. 15), Thomas was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.
