Men’s Hoops Continues Road Swing at UNCW

Bison looking to extend win streak against Seahawks

WASHINGTON (December 19, 2025) – Howard University men's basketball team continues to road swing in Wilmington, Del., Saturday (Dec. 20) against UNCW. Tipoff is slated set for 2 p.m., inside Trask Coliseum.

COACHES
 
Howard is coached by Kenneth Blakeney (Duke, '95), who is in his seventh season. UNCW is coached by Takayo Siddle (Gardner Webb, '09), who is in his sixth season.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
The two have met twice and the Bison have come away with close victories. In December 2017, they met in a tournament in El Paso, Texas and HU came away with an 80-75 win. Last year, Howard came out on top in a high-scoring affair, 88-83, inside Burr Gymnasium.

Tuesday (Dec. 16), senior guard Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada) scored a team-high 17 points and recorded his first career double-double to lead HU (8-5) in double figures as the Bison cruised to a 74-66 win over Drexel at Daskalaskis Athletic Center.
 
UNCW
 
On Dec. 13, UNCW (10-1) got a game-high 28 points from Nolan Hodge and 18 points from Noah Ross to defeat Valparaiso, 73-70, and extend its win streak to nine.

Graduate guard Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) has established himself as one of the best players in the country, ranking tied for with in free throws made, tied for 10th in free throw attempts and tied for 25th in points per game (ppg)…In the MEAC, Harris leads in scoring (19.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rebounds per game)…Junior guard Alex Cotton (Carrollton, Texas) ranks third three pointers made per game (2.4)…Junior guard Cam Gillus (Falls Church, Va.) is second in steals, fourth in assists and seventh in free-throw percentage…Nationally, Gillus is tied for 14th in steals…Freshman guard Jeremiah Johnson (Potomac, Md.) is fifth in steals…As a team, the Bison rank first in team defense, three-point shooting defense, blocked shots and steals…The Bison are sharing of the ball (16 assists per game) and the takeaways (9.6 steals, 20 points off opponents' turnovers)…Okojie has been a pleasant surprise after missing much of the past two seasons with various medical issues, the 6-foot-6 wing is having his best scoring season in a Bison uniform…Sophomore forward Travelle Bryson (Anderson, S.C.), who has been a major contributor for Howard off the bench, has missed the past six games…The Bison did welcome back junior guard Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta), who quickly made an impact with his performance in the past two games in which he has played.

Nationally, the Seahawks are tied for 15th in rebounding margin and tied for 20th in offensive rebounds…UNCW is a veteran team that is laden with seniors, three of whom are starters…The Seahawks are averaging 80 points per game and allowing opponents 66 ppg…In CAA stats, UNCW leads the conference in scoring margin, field goal defense (38-percent) and rebounding margin (10.7)…Individually, Hodge is third in three-point shooting, sixth in field goal shooting (47-percent) and eighth in scoring…Patrick Wessler is fourth in rebounding (8.3)…Christian May is third in three-point shooting and three pointers made per game…Greedy Williams is seventh in assists…Madison Durr is third in assists/turnover and ninth in assists.
