WASHINGTON (December 16, 2025) - Dear Howard University Community,
Today, it was announced that Head Football Coach Larry Scott has accepted an opportunity at Auburn University and will depart the program following a historic tenure leading the Bison football program.
Under the leadership of Coach Scott, the football program was elevated on both the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and national stages, instilling a culture of excellence, accountability, and belief among student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Coach Scott's impact extended beyond the field, contributing to the continued momentum and visibility of Howard University Athletics.
After his arrival in 2020, Coach Scott diligently went to work, bringing a winning mentality to the program. Howard was co-MEAC champion in 2023 and outright MEAC champion in 2024, earning a berth to the Celebration Bowl. This past season, the Bison were invited to play in the prestigious Orange Blossom Classic and had a thrilling victory over Florida A&M University, and the team ended a losing streak against Hampton University, soundly defeating the Pirates and laying claim to the title of "the Real HU!" These are just a few of the achievements that represent defining moments for our football program and our University.
I want to thank Coach Scott for his leadership of the Bison football program and the historic success achieved during his tenure. I congratulate him on this next chapter, and on behalf of our student-athletes, alumni and supporters, I wish him all the best.
We will immediately begin a national search for our next head football coach and are excited about what lies ahead for the 2026 season.
In Truth and Service,
Kery Davis
Vice President and Director of Athletics
