CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (December 10, 2025) – Redshirt junior guard
Zoe Stewart (Terre Haute, Ind.) scored a team-high 18 points and senior forward
Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) added 12 points but it was not enough as the Howard University women's basketball team (7-5) fell, 76-50, to hot shooting Virginia (UVA) in a nonconference bout at John Paul Jones Arena.
Stewart has come on strong of late, reaching double digits for the fifth straight game. The junior guard connected on 7-of-14 from the floor, including a season-best 4-of-8 from three-point range.
Miller, who averages a little over seven points per contest, had one of her best games of the season offensively, converting on 6-of-11 from the field.
The duo combined for 13-of-25, but the rest of the team made only 11-of-31.
Team leading scorer and rebounder senior forward
Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) was held to nine points on 4-of-10 shooting. The Cleveland native and candidate for MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Player of the Year came into the game averaging almost 16 points per game. She did manage six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
The Cavaliers jumped out to the early 31-13 lead by shooting a sizzling 61-percent from the field. UVA (8-3) did cool off a bit in the second stanza but Howard was not able to capitalize as they again were unable any offense. They trailed, 42-26, at intermission.
To the Bison's credit, they played the hosts much stronger in the second in the second half, but it was too big of a hole to climb out.
For the game, the Cavaliers shot 55-percent.
UVA was led by Sa'Myah Smith, who equaled Stewart's 18 points, and Tabitha Amanza chipped in 13 points.
