ORANGEBURG, S.C. (November 8, 2025) — South Carolina State (SCSU) bolted out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and never looked back as the Bulldogs defeated the Howard University football team, 42-12, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) clash at Oliver C. Dawson Bulldog Stadium.
The Bison received the opening kickoff and were unable to move the ball, so they had to punt to SCSU (7-3, 3-0 MEAC).
The Bulldogs moved 60 yards on six plays to get on the board with a little over 10 minutes to play, capping off the drive with a one-yard dive by Josh Shaw.
On the Bison's ensuing possession, disaster struck when the Bulldogs returned a
Tyriq Starks (Carol City, Fla.) pass 27 yards for a pick six. South Carolina State had scored twice in less than two minutes.
Howard (4-6, 1-2 MEAC) was able to make a 38-yard field goal by
Matt Conord (Lithia, Fla.) following an interception by redshirt junior defensive back
Kaleb Gallop (Portsmouth, Va.), but the high-powered Bulldogs' offense did not flinch.
Jarod Washington was again in the mix, returning a blocked Conord's field goal attempt 70 yards, 28-3.
The Howard defense would force a safety and was finally able to get a TD when freshman quarterback
Terrell Russell (Montgomery, Ala.) connected with rookie wideout
Eric Slater (Detroit) from 48 yards.
The Bison had problems all day sustaining drives, especially third and fourth down conversions.
Freshman punter
Liam Allen IV (Lake Mary, Fla.), the MEAC Specialist of the Week, had yet another fine outing, averaging over 42 yards per punt with a long of 55 yards.
Redshirt freshman defensive back
Zuri Watson (St. Petersburg, Fla.) had five total tackles and a pass breakup. Redshirt junior
Kedrick Green (Winston-Salem, N.C.) collected four total tackles while Gallop had four total tackles and an interception. Redshirt freshman
CJ Dale Jr. (Lake Placid, Fla.) recorded the first interception of his career.
NEXT UP: Howard will look to snap its two-game skid when it travels to Dover, Del., to take on the Hornets of Delaware State Saturday (Nov. 15) at 1 p.m.
