WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (November 26, 2025) – Redshirt junior guard
Zoe Stewart (Terre Haute, Ind.) scored a team-high 16 points and senior forwards
Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) and
Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) each tallied 12 points, but a second quarter explosion proved to be too much as the Howard University women's basketball team fell, 92-62, to Purdue in a nonconference clash at Mackey Arena.
The Bison (6-2) came into the game allowing only 54 points per game (ppg) through the first seven games, but the Boilermakers pulled away with a 22-0 run in the second quarter that opened a double-digit lead, 48-26, at halftime.
Howard managed only 4-of-13 shooting during that important 10 minutes and it was no match for Purdue, which connected 56-percent from the field, including 41-percent (11-of-27) from beyond the arc during that period.
It was the second straight game that the Indiana native has come on strong. In the past two game, Stewart had come up with back-to-back 16-point performances, converting on 13-of-24 from the floor and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line while adding five steals.
Thomas came into the game averaging 16 ppg while shooting 47-percent from the field. For the game, Thomas missed 8-of-10 shots that she took but did go a perfect 8- for-8 from the foul liner while grabbing seven rebounds.
The bright spot for the Bison was that they only turned the ball over six times and shot a sizzling 81-percent (22-of-27) from the free throw line. They also got 15 of their points off Purdue turnovers.
The Boilermakers (4-2) placed five players in double figures, led by Lana McCarthy (19 points & 15 rebounds) and Tara Daye (15 points & 13 rebounds), who both recorded double-doubles.
NEXT UP: Howard travels to Syracuse, N.Y., to take on the Orange of Syracuse Sunday (Nov. 30) at 2 p.m., and will be televised on ACCNX.
