GAME NOTES
ALCORN STATE
The Alcorn State Braves are on a challenging schedule. The Braves have played three Power Four programs: Florida State (Atlantic Coast Conference); Maryland (Big Ten) and Minnesota (Big Ten).
HOWARD
The Howard men's basketball team continues to challenge the unprecedented. When the Bison hosted Missouri to kick off the season (Nov. 3), it was the fourth Power Four team to visit Burr Gymnasium, along with Oregon State (PAC-12), Notre Dame (Atlantic Coast Conference) and Cincinnati (Big 12).
Another first for Howard is its scheduling as it pertains to nonconference HBCUs. The Bison have already played UDC (Nov. 6), Grambling State (Nov. 9), now Alcorn State (Nov. 13) and later with games against Bowie State (Dec. 6), North Carolina A&T State (Dec. 9), Hampton (Dec. 13) and Morehouse (Jan. 19).
There has been a local flavor to the scheduling. UDC head coach Mike Riley played locally at Cardozo and Georgetown where he also coached under the late John Thompson Jr. Then, the Bison followed with Grambling State head coach Patrick Crary, who is from the DMV. And Alcorn State head coach Jake Morton played locally at Gonzaga and coached at Bowie State. One of his assistants is Darryl Prue, a former standout at Dunbar High School and Hall of Famer at West Virginia.
The Bison are missing the services of redshirt junior
Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta), who is out with a wrist injury.
Howard will depend on his to give instant offense, but in the interim, it has allowed for the development sophomore forward
Travelle Bryson (Anderson, S.C.), redshirt senior
Ed Holland III (Philadelphia), sophomore guard
Isaiah Brown (Ramsey, N.J.) and senior guard
Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada). The quartet showed well in the loss to Grambling State and figure to be invaluable once Taylor returns.
