WASHINGTON (October 19, 2025) — Howard University men's soccer (4-9-1, 3-3 NEC) delivered a statement victory Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium, defeating conference-leading Saint Francis (5-7-1, 5-1 NEC), 1-0.
The result handed the Red Flash their first conference loss of the season. The upset marked Howard's third consecutive win and the program's first four-win campaign since 2019.
The Bison held their ground through an evenly matched opening half, relying on composed defending and sharp goalkeeping from
Liam Keiller (Gaithersburg, Md). Saint Francis controlled early possession, but Howard's back line, anchored by
Troy Matingou (Round Rock, Texas) and
Bryson Clarke (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.), kept the visitors off the scoreboard.
Momentum shifted late in the half when Howard capitalized on one of its few attacking chances. In the 39
th minute, redshirt freshman
Naim Robinson (Detroit) threaded a perfect pass through traffic to
Zach Simmons (Rockwall, Texas), who slotted his first goal of the season past the Red Flash keeper to give Howard a 1–0 advantage.
The Bison defense held firm through halftime, turning away five Saint Francis shots, including one off the right post.
The second half was a test of endurance and discipline. Saint Francis unleashed 12 shots in the final 45 minutes, but Keiller stood firm between the posts, finishing with five saves, four of which were after intermission.
The Bison absorbed sustained pressure while generating late counters through substitutes
Ezekiel Agyemang (Arlington, Texas),
Jude Spallinger (Bluffton, Ohio) and
Corey James (Bethlehem, Pa.), nearly doubling the lead in the closing moments.
Despite a physical finish that saw three yellow cards in the final five minutes, Howard maintained composure to see out the win and clinch its biggest victory in recent program history.
The Bison will look to keep their momentum rolling when they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y., to face LIU Sunday, October 26, at 1 p.m.
