MATCHUP PREVIEW
HOWARD (2-9-1, 1-3-0 NEC)
Howard is coming off its best performance of the season, a 3-0 road win at Central Connecticut State (Oct. 12) that marked its first NEC victory of the year.
After a scoreless first half, the Bison exploded for three goals in the final 25 minutes to take full control.
Junior forward
Ian Campbell (Des Moines, Iowa) was the standout performer, coming off the bench to net two goals for his first collegiate brace as a Bison.
Daniil Kaban (Kharkiv, Ukraine) added a goal and an assist while
Naim Robinson (Detroit) chipped in a key helper.
In goal,
Liam Keiller (Gaithersburg, Md.) earned his first shutout of the year, making three saves in a composed performance.
Howard will look to build on its sharp second-half attack and improved defensive organization as it returns home for the first of back-to-back conference matchups in D.C.
CHICAGO STATE (1-10-1, 0-4-0 NEC)
Chicago State enters Thursday's contest still searching for its first NEC win after falling, 2-0, to league leader Saint Francis.
Despite the result, the Cougars showed strong defensive effort throughout the match. Goalkeeper Aiden Hollander made four saves to keep Chicago State in the game while defenders Zephyn Brockert-Kress and Joshua Ceniceros anchored a resilient backline.
Midfielder Saul Silva and forward Hilary Odhiambo created chances in the final third, including two shots on frame that forced saves.
Though Saint Francis capitalized on a first-half penalty and added a late insurance goal, the Cougars remained competitive throughout the 90 minutes.
Chicago State has demonstrated flashes of promise in tight matches and will aim to convert that into points as they hit the road for Thursday's matchup.
