WASHINGTON (January 13, 2025) — Howard University men's basketball team extended its win streak to three after defeating Coppin State (CSU), 90-75, at Burr Gymnasium.

With the victory, HU moved to 8-9 overall while remaining unbeaten in league play (3-0).

Freshman guard
Blake Harper (Washington) led the way with a double-double (25 points & 12 boards) while fellow D.C. native senior guard
Marcus Dockery added 24 points on 6-of-8 shooting from downtown.

Both squads went back-and-forth early on until CSU took a nine-point advantage with more than seven minutes before halftime, 30-21, thanks to a layup from Jonathan Dunn.

HU responded, scoring 15 unanswered points after a layup from senior forward
Mounir Hima (Tillaberi, Niger), 36-30.

With intermission looming, graduate guard
Anwar Gill (Washington) connected on a jumper to give the Bison a six-point edge at halftime, 42-36.

HU pushed the margin to double digits, 46-36, moments after the break, but the Eagles refused to go away. CSU pulled with a one-possession game at 15:45, 46-43, but a 10-0 spurt from the Bison would put the contest out of reach, 56-43.

From that point on, Howard held a double-digit advantage throughout and never looked back.

Graduate forward
Cameron Shockley-Okeke (Norwalk, Conn.) tallied 20 points and three blocks while Gill filled the stat sheet, finishing with 12 points, nine assists and five rebounds in the win.

Overall, the Bison shot nearly 61-percent (28-of-46), including 52-percent (13-of-25) from beyond the arc. At the charity stripe, HU made over 91-percent (21-of-23).
Howard had yet another fine game spreading the ball around as they were credited with 20 assists on 28 made baskets.

Coppin State (2-16, 1-3 MEAC) did not play badly, shooting 51-percent from the floor but had no answer for the Bison scoring barrage. Dunn led the Eagles with 23 points while Toby Nnadozie added 20 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Wednesday (Jan. 15), HU hosts Bowie State inside The Burr. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
