WASHINGTON (September 20, 2024) – Howard University women's volleyball team got back in the winner's circle after a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-10, 25-15) over the Princeton Tigers Friday night in Burr Gymnasium.
The victory marked volleyball head coach
Shaun Kupferberg's 400
th career win and 206
th as a Bison.
To start, Princeton broke away from a 3-3 tie with a 4-0 run before settling into a 13-9 lead, but back-to-back blocks with the help of
Maya Gerlach (Philadelphia) balanced the board once again, 13-13. Junior
Leah Reeves (Allen, Texas) set the Bison up for a 14-13 lead before inching away, 15-13, on an ace. Princeton stayed close with a one-point disadvantage before a 4-0 run, highlighted by kills from the Woodard sisters (Bria & Cimone) made it a 21-16 set.

Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) sealed the deal, 25-20.
The Bison charge did not let up – running away on an unanswered seven-point run early on for a 9-2 advantage. HU utilized seven kills, led by senior
Bria Woodard (Missouri City, Texas), to double the score, 18-5. The Tigers managed two more attacks before the Bison closed it out with five straight kills, 25-10.
Howard capitalized on a quick 3-0 lead with six uninterrupted points. Princeton pulled out two kills but struggled to find their footing as the Bison doubled its score, 18-9. Consecutive errors would help the Tigers reach double digits, but the Bison continued to dominate with a 25-15 finish and 3-0 match sweep.
Four Bison hit double-digit kills with McKinnon leading the way (15) while Reeves notched her first double-double of the season with 40 assists and 10 digs.
The Bison return to Burr Gym Saturday, September 21, at 6 p.m., when they host High Point for Women's Day.
