WASHINGTON (May 14, 2024) – Howard University Department of Athletics continued its Senior Spotlight series with rising senior journalism major
Sareyah Rudd catching up with Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champion
Jennifer Bolden (Los Angeles) from the women's volleyball team.
Q: What is your favorite part about volleyball?
A: I love the team camaraderie aspect because you get to play a sport you love with a group of people that will go through challenging times with you and can help each other get through those times. In the end, you become close to this specific group of people.
Q: How and when did you start volleyball?
A: I started volleyball at 10 years old because I watched my older cousin play when I was younger and I became interested. So, I decided to pursue and play the sport myself.
Q: What has kept you motivated these past four years?
A: My ambition to be successful in volleyball and life beyond sports has driven and kept me motivated to persevere despite any challenges that were thrown my way. Also, my faith and relationship with God has helped me stay on course with my priorities.
Q: Why did you choose Howard?
A: I chose Howard because of the inviting community feeling you get the moment you step on campus.
Q: What is one thing you will miss about Howard?
A: I will miss Springtime at The Mecca!
Q: Favorite volleyball and/or Howard memory?
A: My favorite volleyball memory was the Green Wave Classic Tournament during the 2022 season because we were able to play competitively while getting time to bond with our teammates and explore and sight see around the city (New Orleans). Since it was my first time in Louisiana, that was a fun and engaging trip where we got to spend a lot of time together.
My favorite Howard memory would have to be springtime every year because the weather is nice and everyone is outside enjoying the weather as the year begins to wind down. It is just a beautiful campus environment every spring.
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: After graduation, I plan to get my master's degree in Medical Science and then attend Medical School to become an Anesthesiologist.
Q: Any parting words for the rest of the team?
A: I love you guys and I will be watching and supporting you guys from a far! Keep up the hard work, I am proud of everybody!
