Men’s Golf Widens Lead After NEC Championship Day Two

Four Bison move into the top 10 on record-setting day

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (April 27, 2024) – Howard University men's golf team widened its lead after Day Two of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship, held at the Callaway Gardens Resort (par-72, 6,981 yards) in Pine Mountain, Ga.

HU shot a record-setting 10-under par (278) in round two, surpassing the previous mark set by Sacred Heart (SHU) back in 2008 (280, -8).

Additionally, after 36 holes of play, the Bison are 15-under par (561) with one round remaining. As a result, HU holds the conference benchmark for two rounds (36 holes), supplanting Wagner's former standard (572, -4) set back in 2016.

Four Bison moved into the top 10, led by graduate Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) and newcomer Bear Huff (Riverside, Calif.) each recording 4-under par (140) performances after two rounds of competition.

Graduate Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) sits sixth overall (143, -1) in the player leaderboard, posting a 71 (-1) in round two with an eagle on two.

Senior Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) rounds out the top 10, registering even par (144) in 36 holes while tying for seventh.

Reigning NEC Champion LIU holds second (568, -8), followed by Sacred Heart at four-over par (580).

SHU's Marcus Lim, reigning NEC Player of the Year, remains atop the player leaderboard after shooting 11-under par (133) in two rounds of play. LIU's Lewis Wright trails Lim by five strokes (138, -6) with one round left.

Sunday (April 28), HU plays the third and final round of the NEC Championship. The action starts at 9 a.m.
