CARY, N.C. (April 26, 2024) – No. 3 Howard University women's tennis team saw its 2024 campaign come to an end in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Semifinal Round, falling to rival No. 2 Delaware State (DSU), 4-2, at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C.
In doubles play, junior
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and sophomore
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) secured a 6-2 victory in the No. 2 slot, topping the Lady Hornets' Eva Golembiovski and Camilla Mitolo. Overall, the Bison duo finished with a 12-1 mark, ending the year on an eight-match win streak.
Despite their success, DSU grabbed the early match lead, 1-0, with wins in the other two doubles matchups.
In singles competition, MEAC Rookie of the Year
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) closed out her freshman campaign with a two-set victory over Mitolo (6-1, 6-1). In her first season as a Bison, the Brooklyn native racked up 13 singles wins while wrapping up the season on a nine-match win streak, dating back to March 13.
Grayson, 2022 MEAC Player of the Year, picked up a win against DSU's Kit Yi Kaye Au-Yeung. The Maryland native returned to form, finishing the 2024 season with a 7-6 singles mark.
Third-year Bison
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) battled, but each fell in three sets.
Delaware State (11-7) moved on to the MEAC Title match where they will face reigning MEAC Champion and top-seeded South Carolina State Saturday (April 27) at noon, live on ESPN+.
For HU, the Bison finished with an 11-10 mark (4-2 MEAC) while earning its second winning season in three years under Howard Director of Tennis
Nicholas Askew. The program returns all 10 student-athletes, including five All-MEAC selections.
