CARY, N.C. (April 26, 2024) – No. 4 Howard University men's tennis team fell in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Semifinal Round to top-seeded South Carolina State (SCSU), 4-0, at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Seniors
Gabe Knowles (Allentown, Pa.) and
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) competed in their final doubles match together, dropping a hard-fought 7-5 contest to SCSU's Gabriel Johnson and Ivan Pauliuchenka.
South Carolina State took an early 1-0 match advantage after winning another doubles contest.
In singles play, senior
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) played his final match for HU, falling to the Bulldogs' Aissa Benchakroun (6-2, 6-4).
SCSU (13-7) went on to win two additional singles matches and advanced to Saturday's (April 27) MEAC Title match against No. 3 North Carolina Central. First-serve is set for noon, live on ESPN+.
Cadeau, Dieng, Knowles and fellow classmate
Pierce Westbrook (New Orleans) represented Bison Nation for the final time Friday afternoon.
For HU (6-11), they look to continues its quest for another MEAC Title under Howard Director of Tennis
Nicholas Askew. The program returns five Bison, led by All-MEAC selections
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) and
Michael Major, Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas).
