TOWSON, Md., AUSTIN, Texas & RALEIGH, N.C. (March 30, 2024) – Howard University women's track & field wrapped up the holiday weekend, competing in three events across three states: Towson Invitational (March 29); Raleigh Relays (March 28-30) and Texas Relays (March 27-30).
TEXAS RELAYS
Texas natives sophomore
Lauren Thompson (Frisco) and graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston) highlighted Easter weekend with incredible performances. Thompson won the 100-meter hurdle with a 13.61 time while Collins set a new school record in the 100-meter dash prelims, clocking in at 11.23. In the final round, she recorded a 11.42 mark and finished sixth overall.
In the field, graduate
Nyagoa Bayak (Westbrook, Mass.) finished fifth overall in the high jump (1.70 meters).
TOWSON INVITE
At nearby Towson, several Bison competed in the field events.
Rookies
Nadia Wynn (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and
Leyanis Castillo (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) represented Bison Nation in the high jump, placing fifth (1.50 meters) and seventh (1.45 meters), respectively.
Fellow classmate and DMV native
Asha Smith (Bowie, Md.) took part in the long jump where she leaped nearly 18 feet (5.40 meters) and placed fourth overall.
Graduate
Zaria Opara (Carnation, Wash.) competed in the discus and hammer, finishing 12
th (34.90 meters) and eighth (44.37 meters), respectively.
RALEIGH RELAYS
Sophomore
Jordyn Miller (Mundelein, Ill.) and junior
Camille Egbula (Simpsonville, S.C.) took part in the 800-meter run, recording times of 2:14.42 and 2:17.64, respectively.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On April 6, Howard stays in The District for the annual Bison Classic, co-hosted by HU and Gallaudet. The action starts at 9:30 a.m.
