GOODYEAR, Ariz. (February 27, 2024) – Howard University graduate
Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) guided the men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate, hosted by the Greyhounds. The three-day event took place at the Palm Valley Golf Club (par-72, 7,015 yards) in Goodyear, Ariz.
Overall, HU shot 15-under par (849) with its best round coming on Day Two. After recording even-par (288) on Day One, the Bison moved up four slots, thanks to an 11-under (277) performance. On the final day, Howard took fifth after registering a 284 (-4) in the round.
Odom led the Bison with a 7-under (209) effort over the three-day span. The Memphis native's best round came in round two, posting a 67 (-5).
Graduate
C.M. Mixon (Bowling Green, Ken.) and senior
Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) tied for 42
nd overall, each producing a 215 (-1). Both Bison had their best rounds on Day Three, shooting 71 (-1) and 69 (-3), respectively.
Rookie
Bear Huff (Riverside, Calif.) returned the West Coast, golfing as an individual for the Bison. In the opening round, he shot 3-under par (69) and finished even (216) after three rounds.
North Dakota (NDSU) led from start-to-finish, winning the 2024 Loyola Intercollegiate with a 40-under par (824) performance.
NDSU's Jake Skarperud won the individual medal, shooting 14-under par (202). Teammate Nate Adams, Delaware's Arsit Areephun and Loyola's Michael Crowley each finished runner-up, two strokes behind Skarperud (204, -12).
On March 3-4, Howard goes to Bluffton, S.C., for the Colleton River Collegiate, hosted by Michigan State.
