WASHINGTON (February 9, 2024) – Howard University women's lacrosse team had six Bison score in its season-opening loss at George Washington (GW), 21-7.
Newcomer
Gabrielle Nelson (Cincinnati) led the way in her collegiate debut, producing three draw controls, two ground balls and a pair of goals.
GW (1-0) opened with an 8-0 run until rookie
Layla Collins (Houston) ended HU's scoring drought on a free position shot, 8-1.
Junior
Maya Rhymes (Coatesville, Pa.) notched her first goal as a Bison in the second period, but the Revolutionaries to a 15-2 advantage at intermission.
After halftime, Nelson and All-NEC selection
Quai Skeete-Ridley (New Carrollton, Md.) each added a goal despite GW holding a 18-4 edge after three quarters.
In the fourth, Howard tallied three goals before falling to George Washington, 21-7.
Freshman
Chloe Ronsholdt (Stafford, Va.) registered four draw controls, three points (two assists & one goal) and two ground balls against the Revs.
In the cage, junior
Logan Ford (Charlotte, N.C.) recorded 11 saves.
For GW, Phoebe Mullarkey had six points (five goals & one assist) while Everly Kessler and Desiree Kleberg each scored four times in the victory.
Tuesday (Feb. 13), the Bison will host American University in their home opener. Match time is set for 3 p.m., at Greene Stadium and can be seen on NEC Front Row.
