ANNAPOLIS, Md. (February 3, 2024) – Howard University women's tennis team battled, but came up short at Navy, 4-3.
HU took the early match lead after winning two-out-of-three in doubles.
Junior
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) and rookie
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) served as the club's top doubles team, knocking off Navy's Sia Chaudry and Samantha Johns, 6-4.
Third-year Bison
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and newcomer
Dana Hall (Miami) held off the Mids' Kate Lee and Parvathi Shanker, 7-5.
In singles play, Pegram defeated Navy's Manci Pal in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) while Jean edged out Julia Lee in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 10-6).
Despite their efforts, Navy (3-1) won the other four singles contests in straight sets.
On February 10, HU tennis program will face off against Mount Saint Mary's (Md.) in D.C., at WTEF- East Capitol Campus. Play is set to begin at noon.
