Bison look to get back on track against Bearcats

WASHINGTON (December 7, 2024) – Howard University men's basketball team looks to get back on track Sunday (Dec. 8) against No. 14 Cincinnati. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.

On Nov. 30, graduate guard Anwar Gill (Washington) scored 16 of his season-high 18 points in the second half to lead four Bison in double figures but some key inquiries and some deft free throw shooting proved to be the difference as HU fell, 79-75, to Mount St. Mary's in a nonconference showdown at Burr Gymnasium.
 
CINCINNATI
 
Cincinnati (6-1) is coming off a 68-60 road loss at Villanova for its first loss of the season. The Bearcats were led by Jizzle James with 19 points and five assists and Siman Lukosius and Dillon Mitchell, who added 13 points and nine points, respectively.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
This is the third meeting between the two schools and the Bearcats hold a 2-0 advantage.
 
Cincinnati won, 70-39, on November 10, 2006, and then pulled out a thrilling 86-81 overtime victory over the Bison in Burr Gymnasium (November 28, 2023).
 
THE COACHES
 
Howard is coached by Kenneth Blakeney (Duke, '95) who is in his sixth season and has led the Bison to two straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament titles and NCAA appearances. Cincinnati is coached by Wes Miller (UNC, '07), who is his fourth season.

Cincinnati's Jizzle James is the younger brother of Howard running back Eden James and son of former NFL standout Edgerrin James...The Bearcats were ranked No. 16 before the Villanova loss...Blake Harper (Washington) is one of the top freshmen in the country, winning MEAC Rookie of the Week for the fourth time of this young season...Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.), MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, did not play in the Mount St. Mary's game and his status is questionable for this game.
