Bison continue homestand against Seahawks

WASHINGTON (December 13, 2024) – Howard University men's basketball team continues its three-game home stand Saturday (Dec. 14), facing UNCW in a nonconference showdown at The Burr. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.

Wednesday (Dec. 11), rookie standout Blake Harper (Washington) continues to show why he is one of the freshmen in the country, recording a triple-double to lead five Bison in double figures as HU coasted to a 124-50 win over Virginia-Lynchburg (VUL).
 
UNCW
 
The Seahawks (7-2) defeated Marshall, 78-69, at home for their fourth straight win. UNCW was led by Donovan Newby, who scored 18 points and Sean Moore and Khamari McGriff added 14 points and 13 points, respectively.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
Wednesday's showdown will be the fifth meeting between the two programs with the Seahawks leading the series, 3-1.
 
THE COACHES
 
UNCW is coached Takayo Siddle (Gardner Webb, '09), who is in his fifth season.
 
Howard is led by Kenneth Blakeney (Duke, '95), who is in his sixth season and has led the Bison to two straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament titles and NCAA appearances.

Newby has reached double figures in eight-of-the-nine games, registering a season-high against Georgia Southern...The Seahawks are averaging 82 points per game, shooting 45 percent from the field and 76-percent as a team from the free throw line...defensively, UNCW is limiting its opponents to 27-percent shooting from the three-point line while averaging 4.3 blocks per game.
 
BISON NOTES
 
Harper has established himself as one of the top freshmen in the country, being named MEAC Rookie of the Week five times this young season...Harper followed up his first double-double against Cincinnati (23 points & 11 rebounds) with his first career triple-double in the win over VUL (30 points, 13 rebounds & 10 assists)…Marcus Dockery (Washington) needs only 36 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau in his career…Dockey made a career-high seven three-pointers versus VUL (Dec. 11)…The Bison played Wednesday's matchup against VUL without the services of junior forward Dom Campbell (Scarborough, Maine), graduate guard Joshua Strong (Minneapolis), senior guard Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) and junior forward Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada), who combine for over 30 points per game among them and their status for versus UNCW is unknown at this time…The Bison are averaging 17 assists per game.
