CHICAGO (November 7, 2024) - Howard University men's soccer team dropped the season finale, 3-1, to Chicago State (CSU) Thursday night.
The matchup dropped the Bison to a 2-11-3 overall record to end the season and 2-5-1 in conference.
With just 53 seconds on the board, Chicago State opened the scoring when freshman Aidan Lopez played clean-up on a PK opportunity, 1-0.
Aiming to join the board, senior
Bryson Baker (Ellicott City, Md.) and graduate
Mason Christian (Fulton, Md.) each got a shot in before CSU's Lopez tacked on another point for the Cougars, 2-0.
With his third shot of the game, Baker connected with the back of the net with two minutes left in the first half, 2-1.
Looking to equalize the score, rookie standout
Zach Simmons (Rockwall, Texas) took a shot but went just high before the buzzer.
Chicago State aimed to get on the board quickly to start the final period with freshman forward Bruno Baez scoring 30 seconds into the half, making the score 3-1.
Fighting to stay in the game, Howard took five shots - two on target, forcing the Cougar in goal to rely heavily on his agility. The Bison attack fell short as the clock ran out.
With 21 goals, the Bison netted the most points for the program in over a decade. Christian led the Bison throughout the season, posting six goals and 13 points across 14 games played.
Facing 245 shots, redshirt freshman
