Men’s Basketball Closes Out Road Swing at UMBC

Bison square off against Retrievers Monday

WASHINGTON (November 24, 2024) – Howard University men's basketball closes out its four-game road swing in Baltimore, squaring off against UMBC (University of Maryland Baltimore County) Monday (Nov. 25). Tipoff is scheduled for noon, live on ESPN+.

Sunday (Nov. 24), senior guard Marcus Dockery (Washington) scored a game-high 17 points and fellow D.C. natives Blake Harper and Anwar Gill added 14 points and 10 points, respectively, but HU could not overcome the three-point shooting barrage as the Bison fell, 69-62, to Boston University (BU) in a nonconference game.
 
UMBC
 
UMBC is coming off a 75-71 loss to BU Saturday (Nov. 23) in the UMBC Challenge. The Retrievers were led Joseph Odunow, who scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds in that game. Bryce Jonson added 18 points and Marlon Short chipped in with 10 points.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
This is the third meeting between the two institutions. The latest game was in 2015 when Howard prevailed, 103-93, in a shootout. The other meeting was in 2014 and the Bison won, 68-54, to go 2-0 in the series.
 
THE COACHES
 
Howard is coached by Kenneth Blakeney (Duke, '95), who is in his sixth season and has led the Bison to two straight MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Tournament titles and NCAA appearances.
 
UMBC is coached by Jim Ferry (Keene State, '90), who is in his third season.
