Howell, King Provide Hot Shooting in Women's Basketball Win

Bison take down New Hampshire

WASHINGTON (November 23, 2024) – Graduate guard Destiny Howell (Queens, N.Y.) came out of a recent shooting slump, scoring a game-high 20 points and freshman guard Saniyah King (Washington) contributed 17 points to lead the Howard University women's basketball team to a 76-55 win over New Hampshire in a nonconference game at Burr Gymnasium.

The Bison (4-2), who had suffered through back-to-back games shooting under 30-percent from the floor, had one of their best shooting performances of the season. The key was the second quarter when the home team put away the visitors with a 24-14 run on 9-of-13 shooting.

Howell, the 2022-23 MEAC Player of the Year and recently scored her 1,000th point, connected 7-of-11 from the field, including 4-of-6 from her specialty area, the three-point line. The graduate guard added a career-high six assists for good measure.

King, who had also had scoring problems of late, turned in her best performance of the young season, converting on 7-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. The two-time MEAC Rookie of the Week also dished out six assists.

Graduate forward Kaiya Creek (Seat Pleasant, Md.), who had also struggled in the previous two games, tallied 11 points and junior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) had yet another consistent game with eight points, seven rebounds and a team-leading three steals.

For the game, Howard recorded 18 assists on 27 baskets.

The Wildcats (4-3) never could get on track as they made only 15-of-57 shots for 26-percent.  New Hampshire was led by Diana Eliasson and Eva Dechent, who each scored 13 points.

NEXT UP: Howard travels to Williamsburg, Va., to take on William & Mary Friday (Nov. 29).
