Volleyball Advances with Victory Over South Carolina State

Bison cruises to the MEAC Semifinal Round

DOVER, Del. (November 22, 2024) – Howard University women's volleyball team advanced to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Semifinal Round after defeating South Carolina State (SCSU) in straight sets (25-10, 25-22, 25-13).

HU (22-5) eclipsed a .406 hitting percentage with 51 kills.

MEAC Player of the Year junior outside hitter Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) led the way with 14 kills, followed by All-MEAC selection senior outside hitter Dami Awojobi (Hempstead, N.Y.) with 13 kills.

Howard led from start-to-finish with a .410 hitting percentage while taking a 1-0 match lead.

Both squads were deadlocked midway through set two until back-to-back kills from McKinnon and All-MEAC First Team selection senior middle blocker Cimone Woodard (Missouri City, Texas) created enough separation to give HU the upper hand and a commanding 2-0 match advantage.

SCSU tied game three early on, but the Bison rolled into the semifinal round after producing a .571 hitting percentage in the final frame.

MEAC Setter of the Year junior libero Leah Reeves (Allen, Texas) notched 44 assists and six digs in the win.

For SCSU (3-23), Kiyah Felder led the Bulldogs attack with a team-leading seven kills.

Saturday (Nov. 23), top-seeded Howard meets No. 5 Maryland Eastern Shore in the MEAC Semifinal Round. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., in Dover, Del.
