Volleyball Set to Compete at the MEAC Championship

Bison look to bring home another tourney title

WASHINGTON (November 21, 2024) – The Howard University women's volleyball team is set to play in the 2024 Mid-Eastern athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship, which will be held Friday through Sunday, Nov. 22-24, at Memorial Hall on the campus of Delaware State University.
 
Howard will take on South Carolina State for the opening quarterfinal round at 11:30 a.m. Friday (Nov. 22).
 
FOLLOW THE ACTION
 
Bison Nation can follow all the action via live stats. Sunday's championship match will air on ESPNU.
 
Tickets for the 2024 MEAC Volleyball Championship will be online and sold on-site at Memorial Hall.
 
A weekend pass will be available for $25 while daily tickets throughout the tournament can be purchased for $10.

TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
 
HOWARD
 
HU (21-5, 14-0 MEAC) is riding a 15-match win streak, dating back to Sept. 29. The Lady Bison are the MEAC Regular Season Champions, making them the No. 1 seed going into the tourney.
 
Third-year Bison Leah Reeves (Allen, Texas) once again claimed MEAC Setter of the Week for the eighth consecutive week. She totaled 46 assists, five digs and two service aces against Norfolk State (NSU) Friday (Nov.15).
 
Reigning MEAC Player of the Year junior outside hitter Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) continues to the lead the Lady Bison in kills, totaling 16 kills against the Spartans.
 
SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
 
SCSU (3-22, 1-12 MEAC) is currently the No. 8 seed going into the MEAC Tournament.
 
Kiyah Felder leads SCSU in points per set (2.63) and kills per set (2.30).
 
COPPIN STATE
 
Coppin State (15-15, 11-3 MEAC) are the reigning MEAC Champions and currently the No. 2 seed going into the MEAC Tournament.
 
TaKenya Stafford leads the Eagles in points per set (3.95) and kills per set (3.62).
 
DELAWARE STATE
 
Delaware State (14-13, 10-4 MEAC) is currently the No. 3 seed going into the MEAC Tournament.
 
Alondra Maldonado leads the Lady Hornets in points per set (3.27) as well as kills per set (2.89).
 
NORFOLK STATE
 
Norfolk State (13-14, 7-7MEAC) is currently the No. 4 seed going into the MEAC Tournament.
 
Gabrielle Gilbert leads the Spartans in point per set (4.72) and kills per set (4.06).
 
MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
 
Maryland Eastern Shore (11-14, 6-8 MEAC) is currently the No. 5 seed going into the MEAC Tournament.
 
Ranyla Griggs leads the Hawks in point per set (3.08) and kills per set (2.82).
 
NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL
 
NCCU (7-18, 5-9 MEAC) is currently the No. 6 seed going into the MEAC Tournament.
 
Kamren Harper leads the Eagles in point per set (3.39) and kills per set (3.19).
 
MORGAN STATE
 
Morgan State (6-22, 2-12 MEAC) is currently the No. ]2 seed going into the MEAC Tournament.
 
Daniela Ferreira leads the Lady Bears in point per set (3.18) and kills per set (2.63).
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
In their previous match, the Lady Bison took care of business with a sweep of Norfolk State (Nov.15).
 
Howard recorded 51 kills with a .369 hitting percentage.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Saturday's (Nov. 23) semifinal round will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the winners of the Howard- SCSU and Norfolk State-Maryland Eastern Shore. Sunday's (Nov. 24) championship final will be televised live at 8:30 p.m., on ESPNU.
