Women’s Soccer Looks to Clinch NEC Title at DSU

Bison seeking first NEC regular season crown in program history

WASHINGTON (October 30, 2024) – The Howard University women's soccer team is preparing for a crucial match at Delaware State (DSU) Thursday, October 31, in Dover, Del. The game will kick off at 7 p.m.

HOWARD
 
HU (8-4-5 MEAC, 7-1-1 NEC) is riding a wave of confidence after its recent victory over FDU, 3-2, Sunday (Oct. 27).
 
Key players who have been stepping up in crucial moments for the Bison: sophomore Mia Young (Sunrise, Fla.) connecting a penalty kick; forward Kyra Bolden (McLean, Va.) leveling the match and sophomore Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, Md.) netting the game-winner.
 
Sophomore goalie Trinity Knox (Atlanta) had eight saves in the win.
 
Howard is in a stellar position with a victory securing the regular season title and home-field advantage throughout the tournament.
 
DELAWARE STATE
 
The Hornets (0-16-1, 0-8-1 NEC) are looking to finish their 2024 season with an unexpected bang against the Bison. They have shown resilience and determination, making them a formidable opponent. They lost their previous game, 1-0, against Chicago State Sunday (Oct. 27).
 
DSU were projected to finish last in the Northeast Conference (NEC) under the guidance of head coach Natasha Ademakinwa.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
The Bison's latest victory showcased their determination and skill on Senior Day.
 
Howard fell behind early when FDU converted a penalty kick in the 17th minute for a 1-0 lead; however, Knox and the Bison defense remained resilient, blocking several attempts.
 
Young evened the score with a penalty kick of her own, 1-1.
 
In the second half, FDU regained the lead with another goal, 2-1, but Howard responded quickly with Bolden leveling the match, 2-2.
 
With just two minutes remaining, Mickens-Perez became the difference-maker, scoring the game-winner with an assist from newcomer Gabriella Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.).
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Howard qualified for the 2024 NEC Tournament with seedings to be determined soon.
