Volleyball Resumes MEAC Play with Pair of Home Matchups

Bison looking to stay hot against South Carolina State and North Carolina Central

WASHINGTON (October 23, 2024) – The Howard University women's volleyball team continues its three-match homestand with a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matchups. Friday (Oct. 25), HU faces South Carolina State University (SCSU) for Senior Night at 6 p.m. Two days later (Oct. 27), they meet North Carolina Central University (NCCU) at 1 p.m. for Dig Pink Day. Both contests are inside Burr Gymnasium.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
HOWARD
 
HU (14-5, 7-0) is riding an eight-match win streak, dating back Sept. 29. Since the streak, Howard has lost only two sets, but remain unblemished during league play.
 
Reigning MEAC Player of the Year junior outside hitter Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) spearheads the Bison attack, ranking among the nation's leaders in kills per set (4.53/15th) and points per set (5.04/18th).
 
Third-year Bison Leah Reeves (Allen, Texas) orchestrates the offense, tallying 7.34 assists per set, which ranks third in the conference.
 
Monday (Oct. 21), both Bison each received MEAC Weekly Honors. McKinnon won MEAC Player of the Week for the second straight week while Reeves took home Co-Setter of the Week.
 
SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
 
SCSU (3-15, 1-5 MEAC) is looking to regain momentum after being swept in their past two matches against Delaware State (DSU) and North Carolina Central (NCCU).
 
Kiya Felder leads SCSU with 210 total points (2.63 points per game) and Trinity Stevenson leads in digs per set (2.73).
 
NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL
 
NCCU (4-14, 2-5 MEAC) is looking to keep the momentum after a sweep of South Carolina State Friday (Oct.18).
 
In the victory over SCSU, Karmen Harper led the team with 11 kills while setter Bella Dearinger had 32 assists.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Wednesday (Oct. 23), HU kept its streak alive with a five-set win over UMBC inside The Burr.
 
McKinnon and senior Dami Awojobi (Hempstead, N.Y.) led the way, each recording a double-double in the victory.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Howard is set to play DSU Friday (Nov. 1) at 6 p.m., on the road.
 
Two days later (Nov. 3), the Lady Bison face Maryland Eastern Shore at 1 p.m., inside Burr Gymnasium.
