LOUISVILLE, Ken. & NEW YORK (January 13, 2024) – Howard University women's track & field returned from the winter break in a big way with meets in Louisville, Ken. (Rod McCravy Invitational) and New York (HBCU Showase).
HBCU SHOWCASE
Fifth-year thrower
Erin Hatcher (Silver Spring, Md.) highlighted the weekend with a victory in the weight throw, tossing over 60-feet (18.38 meters). Sophomore
Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) and graduate
Zaria Opara (Carnation, Wash.) also competed, taking sixth (15.95 meters) and seventh (15.69 meter), respectively.
On the track, junior
Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) and fifth-year Bison
Breanna McDonald (Bethesda, Md.) took part in the 3K run where they earned second (10:21.93) and third (10.21.93), respectively. The Bison duo also represented HU, along with sophomore
Jordyn Miller (Mundelein, Ill.), in the mile run, placing third (5:21.63), fifth (5:30.29) and sixth (5:35.85), respectively.
Rookie
Asha Smith (Bowie, Md.) claimed silver in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 7.91, while second-year Bison
Jazmyn Wajd (Tampa, Fla.) finished sixth overall (8.88) in the short hurdles (60-meter).
ROD MCCRAVY INVITE
Sophomore
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) claimed eighth in the 400-meter dash, recording a 57.71 mark.
In the field, second-year jumper
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) leaped over 38-feet in the triple jump, placing her eighth in the event.
