WASHINGTON (September 7, 2023) – Howard University women's soccer slipped by the George Washington (GW) Revolutionaries Thursday night at GW Soccer Field.
The 2-1 victory moves the Bison to a 3-2-1 record while George Washington drops to 3-2-1 on the season.
GW freshman Kate McGrath (Coronado, Calif.) opened the scoring when she put the Revolutionaries on the board in the third minute, 1-0.
The Bison answered back just 16 seconds later when sophomore Kyra Bolden (McLean, Va.) set team captain Melea Earley (La Mirada, Calif.) up to even the playing field, 1-1.
A lightning delay may have paused the game, but it did not slow down the momentum as both teams sounded off six more shots apiece before closing the half.
Coming out of the period in a 1-1 stalemate, GW was eager to take the lead, attempting 15 shots - four on target.
The Revolutionaries' attempts fell short as Earley made her mark once again in the 85th minute with an unassisted goal for the win.
Through 90 minutes of play, Georgia native Trinity Knox (Atlanta) saved six of the seven on-target shots from GW.
The Bison are back on the pitch Monday, September 11, as they face Virginia State in Petersburg, Va. at 5 p.m.
