GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (September 5, 2023) - Howard University men's golf slipped down the leaderboard on day two of the Folds of Honor Collegiate, hosted by Michigan State University.
Shooting 315 (+31) on the day, the Bison dropped only two slots to 14th place.
Tied at 44th, graduate Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) continues to lead the Bison, shooting 78 (+7) after round two.
Graduate Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) moved up the Bison's ranks, shooting five-over par (76), including two birdies on the bookends and four bogeys throughout the day. The Tidewater native sits in a five-way tie at 51st - one competitor being teammate and Howard newcomer C.M. Mixon (Bowling Green, Ken.).
Mixon recorded two birdies through the first nine holes before closing the day out with another one-under par on the 18th hole.
Recording 11 bogeys through 17 holes, senior Joshua Siplin (Orlando, Fla.) shot 83 through the day to land in a six-way tie at 71st. Siplin ended round two on a good note, sinking a birdie on the final hole.
Sophomore Bison Hugo Garcia (Dubai, UAE) rounded out the HU scorecard, shooting an 84 (+13) and sitting 85th place.
Host Michigan State (570, +2) moved up the ranks to take the top seed, shooting five-under par on the day and two-over par overall.
While his team sits in 8th place, North Carolina State's Nick Mathews holds on to his seat atop the competition, registering five-under par (137) in 36 holes of play.
Howard closes out the Folds of Honor Collegiate tomorrow September 6. Tee time is slated for 9:20 a.m. on the Golf Channel via the Peacock App.
