WASHINGTON (September 3, 2023) - Howard University women's soccer (2-2-1) returned to the winner's circle Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 victory against Longwood University (1-3-2).
The Bison came out hungry, putting multiple shots on goal, but Lancer goalie Mary Kate Levush (Perkasie, Pa.) showcased her agility by blocking the Howard attempts. Despite her efforts, the Bison's tenacity soon proved fruitful.
In a great display of athleticism, junior transfer Samone Knight (The Woodlands, Texas) headed her first goal as a Bison when she connected with a well-executed corner from newcomer Samantha James (Herndon, Va.) in the 16th minute.
The Bison defense was just as formidable, keeping the Lancers to just three shots in the first half while the Bison sounded off six more shots to the net.
One goal is all it took as the Bison kept the Lancers at bay through the second half, allowing only four shots to Howard's 15.
First-year keeper Trinity Knox (Atlanta) secured her second shutout of the season while adding five saves in the full 90 minutes.
The Bison are back in action Thursday (September 7) when they travel crosstown to play George Washington. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
