Women’s Swimming & Diving Projected Third in the NEC Preseason Rankings

Bison look to contend for a league title in February

SOMERSET, N.J. (September 27, 2023) – The Northeast Conference (NEC) unveiled its women's swimming & diving preseason rankings where Howard University was projected to finish third in the overall standings. The announcement came Wednesday afternoon.
 
Last February, HU finished fourth overall at the NEC Championships after compiling 498 points over the five-day tourney.
 
Sophomore standout Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) was named NEC Rookie of the Meet after setting five records in Ohio.
 
For the second straight year, the coaching staff received NEC Coaching Staff of the Year, led by Howard Director of Swimming & Diving Nicholas Askew.
 
Entering the 2023-24 season, Howard returns several key Bison: Nwaeze; senior Michaela Spears (Chicago) and junior Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas).
 
Recently, HU placed fourth overall at the annual Potomac Relays (Aug. 22), including a victory in the 500 Free Relay.
 
Central Connecticut State was selected unanimously by head coaches around the league to repeat as NEC Champion, followed by Wagner College.
 
On Oct. 7, Howard hosts crosstown rival Georgetown in the Battle at The Burr II. Meet time is slated for 2 p.m., at Burr Gym Pool.
