Bolden Leads Women’s Soccer Past Bulldogs

Bison extend win streak to six

WASHINGTON (September 21, 2023) – Howard University junior forward Kyra Bolden (McLean, Va.) scored a pair of goals to lead the women's soccer team past old-rival Alabama A&M (AAMU), 3-1, at Greene Stadium.

With the victory, HU (7-2-1) extended its win streak to six while the Bulldogs remain winless (0-8).

Bolden scored on an incredible shot at the 20-minute mark, putting the Bison ahead, 1-0.

In the waning moments before intermission, senior midfielder Nyla Allen (Elmont, N.Y.) registered her fifth goal of the season, thanks to assists from Bolden and third-year Bison Rachel Asare (Tampa, Fla.), and gave HU a 2-0 halftime advantage.

After intermission, AAMU ended Howard's streak of eight consecutive shutout periods with a goal from Ameila Barber, 2-1.

With time dwindling, DMV native sophomore defender Laila Cowsette (Laurel, Md.) found Bolden for her second goal of the match to seal the deal, 3-1.

Overall, the Bison outshot AAMU, 26-6, and took seven more corner kicks, 9-2.

Reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week Trinity Knox (Atlanta) recorded a pair of saves in the victory.

For the Bulldogs, Madalynn Tanksley manufactured nine saves in a losing effort.

HU wraps up its brief two-match home stand Sunday (Sept. 24), facing Wagner in NEC play. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., at Greene Stadium.
