Dankwah Selected to the 2023 Phil Steele Preseason All-American Team

15 Bison named to the Phil Steele All-Conference Team

CLEVELAND (August 1, 2023) – Phil Steele, nationally known as one of the best football analysts in the entire country, unveiled his 2023 Preseason FCS All-American Team where Howard University saw graduate offensive lineman Anim Dankwah (Ontario, Canada) named to the team. The announcement came Friday (July 28).

Recently, Dankwah was named to the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 List after starting all 11 games for the Bison a year ago. Additionally, 6-foot-8, 362-pound lineman earned multiple postseason honors, including 2022 Bluebloods All-Conference First Team and 2022 Phil Steele FCS All-MEAC First Team. The Canadian native was an All-MEAC First Team selection and helped Howard earn a share of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship, its first since 1993.

In addition, 15 Bison made the 2023 Phil Steele Preseason All-Conference Team.

Seven Bison earned a spot on the first team: Dankwah; tight end Brennan Brown (Dallas); defensive back Kenny Gallop, Jr. (Portsmouth, Va.); wide receiver Kasey Hawthorne (Sebring, Fla.); running back Jarett Hunter (Mineral, Va.); offensive lineman DeShawn Ingram (Detroit) and defensive lineman Jevin Jackson (Lawrenceville, Ga.).

The second team consisted of Hawthorne (All-Purpose), defensive lineman Darrian Brokenburr (Manassas, Va.), offensive lineman Darius Fox (Washington), defensive back Robert Jones III (Fairwood, Va.), running back/kick returner Ian Wheeler (Houston), linebacker Christian White (Highland Springs, Va.) and quarterback Quinton Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.).

Third-year Bison linebacker Terrance Hollon (Cleveland) and sophomore punter Aaron Bickerton (Bonita Springs, Fla.) were selected to the third team.

These teams were selected by Phil Steele & the draftscout.com staff. Since 2001, Draftscout.com has been the gold standard industry leading database built for compiling & charting College Football Prospects from Prep to Pro.

Howard is set to open the 2023 season against Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan Friday (Sept. 1). Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
