WASHINGTON (June 21, 2023) – Howard University rising junior Media, Journalism, and Film major, Spanish minor
Sareyah Rudd caught up with women's soccer recent graduate
Madison Myles (Atlanta) for a quick Q and A session.
Q: What's your favorite part about soccer?
A: My favorite part about soccer was the opportunity to play the game I love while also expressing my creativity through my style of play.
Q: How did you get started in soccer?
A: Growing up, I was heavily active and tried many different sports before soccer. I began soccer at seven years old and I immediately fell in love with the sport.
Q: What kept you motivated?
A: My main source of motivation came from myself while reflecting on my athletic journey. I always kept my "why" as a motivator because I overcame many obstacles and continued to remind myself when challenges surface to remain resilient because I owe that to myself.
My parents were also a major support system for me as well.
Q: If you were not competing in soccer, what other sport would you play?
A: If I were not competing in soccer, I would play either basketball or volleyball because I love playing and watching both sports.
Q: Who is your favorite athlete and why?
A: One of my favorite soccer players is
Neymar Júnior (Brazilian Soccer Star) because I love his style of play. I always learn new things every time I watch him.
Another athlete I admire is
Michael Jordan (NBA Legend) because of his tenacity and versatility.
Q: What's your favorite memory from Howard?
A: My favorite memory from Howard was winning the SWAC (Southwest Athletic Conference) Semifinal game against Grambling State University to advance to the championship game. It was a very intense game from both teams, I really enjoyed playing and winning that game alongside my teammates.
Q: Plans after graduation?
A: I plan to attend Emory University Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta, obtaining my MPH in Global Health.
Q: What or who will you miss at Howard?
A: I will miss my teammates and friends because they truly made my experience so much better. I am extremely grateful to carry those connections with me beyond Howard and leave with life-long friends.
Q: What advice would you give future Bison?
A: My advice to a future Bison is to remain true to who you are and show up for not only others but mainly for yourself. Be your best version of yourself always, work hard, love what you do and have fun!
Q: Who would you like to thank?
A: I would like to thank my family, friends and coaches that not only supported and helped me along my journey to The Mecca, but continued to support me during my last four years.
