During the past two years, the Howard University Athletics program has been setting precedents and making history. This year alone, the program won championships in six different sports: men's golf; football; men's basketball; men's swimming and diving; women's track and field and women's cross country.

The growth and success have been rewarded with a significant first since 1988: The men's and women's programs winning the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Sports awards in the same season. The honor is based on a point system for success in the conference during the course of the season.

The men's team captured the Talmadge Hill All Sports awards for the first time since 1988 and only the fourth time since 1972. The women, who won the Mary McLeod Bethune All Sports Awards last year, won it again and the fifth time since 1987.

The final installment of the three-part series features spring sports (men's and women's outdoor track & field, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf, softball, women's lacrosse).

Derek W. Bryant, Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations & Sports Information, Chevonne Mansfield, Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director, and Badi Cross, Journalism major, class of 2024, contributed to this story.
