“Where Are They Now?” Featuring Nicholas Haughton

The summer series returns with former captain Nick Haughton

WASHINGTON (June 1, 2023) - Nicholas Haughton (BBA '19) was a member of the Howard University swimming & diving team (2015-19), earning academic and swimming scholarships while serving as one of the captains for two seasons (2017-19).

Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica where he was a member of Jamaica's National Swim Team since 2011, Nick competed at several CARIFTA Championships. He was a member of the 2015 400 free relay team, which set a National Age Group Record and won a Silver Medal. He was also a member of Jamaica's inaugural Open Water Swim team at CARIFTA 2013. He was also a member of Jamaica's team that participated in the Pan American Sports Festival in Mexico.

As a Bison, he specialized in freestyle events and sat on the HU All-Time Top Performance List in several categories: 500 Free (No. 6 all-time); 1000 Free (No. 7 all-time) and 1650 Free (No. 7 all- time).

He was also a member of relay teams that broke school records in the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championship (CCSAC) in 2017 and 2018.

He reflects on his time at Howard as challenging, but incredibly rewarding. He is grateful for being introduced to new cultures and fresh perspectives from his peers, professors, and campus environment.

Academically, he was named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Commissioner's All-Academic Team twice (2018 & 2019). He was also named to the School of Business Dean's List in the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters and a member of the Howard School of Business Executive Leadership Honors Program (2015-18).

In 2019, Nick was inducted as a member of Beta Alpha Psi, an honor organization for individuals who study financial information or work in financial services.

After moving back to Jamaica in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Nick was employed as an Assistant Accountant in the Audit Division of KPMG, one of the Big Four accounting firms in their Kingston office. In January 2023, Nick was appointed Junior Business Advisor in Deals at KPMG, and is currently pursuing the Financial Modeling and Valuation Analyst course from the Corporate Finance Institute.

He holds a certificate in Financial Securities Management which he obtained from the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean in 2021.

Since 2023, he has been volunteering as the Financial Manager/Treasurer for the Tornadoes Swim Club (the club for which he swam prior to leaving for Howard).
