BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (May 16, 2023) – The Northeast Conference (NEC) uncovered its women's golf postseason honors where Howard University saw three Bison recognized for their incredible 2022-23 campaign. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman
Marley Franklin (Los Angeles) headlined the afternoon, becoming the first HU golfer in program history to win a major award (NEC Rookie of the Year). Second-year Bison
Kendall Jackson (Pearland, Texas) made the All-NEC First Team while graduate
Kyra Cox (South Salem, N.Y.) landed on the All-NEC Second Team.
In her rookie year, Franklin competed in nine tournaments (25 rounds) while averaging 76.6 per round. Throughout the season, she had three top 10 finishes, including second place at the HBCU Invitational (Oct. 15-16). During that event, the Los Angeles native shot 217, including a career-best 69 in the final round.
Jackson took part in 13 tournaments (36 rounds) while producing a 74.7 per round mark. The Texas product notched nine top 10 finishes, including a handful in the top 5. The two-time All-NEC selection won a pair of events during the 2022-23 year: HBCU Invitational (Oct. 15-16) and Lady Bison Invitational (April 10-11).
In her only season with the Bison, Cox played 33 rounds (12 tournaments) while recording a 76.1 per round average. The New York native registered five top 10 finishes, including two top 5 performances. At the Hornets at the Creek (Sept. 19-20), hosted by Delaware State, she placed runner-up after posted 219, including a season-best 67 in the opening round.
Sacred Heart Chantal El Chaib claimed NEC Player of the Year while the Pioneers' Matt McGreevy took home the league's Coach of the Year honor.
Howard wrapped up its second full season of competition under Director of Golf
Sam Puryear and looks to continue its quest for the program's first NEC title.
