CARY, N.C. (March 16, 2023) – Howard University women's tennis team dropped its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener to South Carolina State (SCSU), 5-2, at Cary Tennis Park as part of the league's annual round up.
Second-year Bison
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) led the way with a pair of victories.
In doubles play, Butcher, alongside fellow classmate
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.), knocked off SCSU's Malannia Vashkevich and Rachida Berjane, 6-2.
In singles play, the Florida native served as the club's No. 3 player where she took down the Lady Bulldogs' Teodora Vujicic in straight sets (6-3, 6-4).
Newcomer
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) also won her singles match in two sets (6-1, 6-4).
Despite their success, SCSU won the other four singles matches and took two-out-of-three in doubles competition.
HU (2-8, 0-1 MEAC) looks to rebound Friday (March 17) when they take down North Carolina Central. Match time is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Cary Tennis Park.
