Women’s Track & Field Holds Top Spot at the MEAC Indoor Championships

Bison remain in first place after six events

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (February 20, 2023) – Howard University women's track & field squad holds the top spot after Day Two of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships, held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
 
Through six scored events, Howard leads with 66 points while Morgan State sits in second with 45 points.
 
HU won two events on the day.
 
Graduate Mikyla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) won the weight throw, tossing 18.99 meters (62'3"). Seniors Erin Hatcher (Burtonsville, Md.) and Symone Marsh (Hillsborough, N.J.) also competed, placing fifth (16.65 meters) and seventh (15.55 meters), respectively.
 
Sophomore Jasmyn Hunter (Flossmoor, Ill.) claimed the top spot in the pentathlon after scoring 3199 points. Freshman Leah Williams-White (Denver) also competed, finishing fourth overall (2951).
 
Williams-White took part in the high jump, earning third place (1.62 meters).
 
Hunter also made the 60-meter hurdles final round, joining graduate Catherina Morris (Auburndale, Fla.) and juniors Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.) and Darci Khan (Stockbridge, Ga.).
 
Khan, along with senior De'ja Dade (Desoto, Texas) and sophomores Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and Lamaria Washington (Miami), reached the 60-meter dash final round.
 
In the 400-meter dash, five Bison earned a spot in the final round: seniors Monika Williams (Denver) and Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) and freshmen Kiya Lawson (Montclair, N.J.), Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) and Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.).
 
The distance medley relay squad of seniors Melanie White (Orlando, Fla.) and Dasia Wilson (Philadelphia), sophomore Camille Egbula (Simpsonville, S.C.) and newcomer Jordyn Miller (Mundelein, Ill.) took home silver, clocking in at 12:16.78.
 
Wednesday's action begins at 9:30 a.m., with the women's pole vault. Running events get going at 12:30 p.m., with the final of the women's mile. All of Wednesday's action will be streamed live on the MEAC Digital Network on YouTube.
