WASHINGTON (February 11, 2023) – Howard University graduate guard
Jelani Williams (Washington) lifted the men's basketball team past Delaware State (DSU) in overtime, 86-85, with a turnaround hook shot with less than three ticks left.

Williams had his best game as a Bison, finishing with first collegiate double-double with 19 points (team-high) and 12 boards (career-high).
"I always like playing on the road," said Williams postgame. "Going into other environments and silencing the crowd is always a good feeling."
The Bison showed rust after nearly two weeks away but held a three-point advantage at the break, 31-28.

After intermission, Howard came out with a fire under their wings, thanks to a steal from third-year Bison
Jordan Wood (San Antonio) and clutch three-pointer from sophomore guard
Marcus Dockery (Washington).

Despite Howard's momentum, the Hornets were not rattled as they hit back-to-back three pointers and keeping things interesting. The entire second half went back-and-forth in a one-possession game, through waves of momentum shifts from both sides.

With two minutes left in regulation, sophomore guard
Elijah Hawkins fouled out and the Hornets came up big in the final 30 seconds, sending the game into OT, 70-70.

In overtime, HU shot nearly 56-percent (5-of-9) from the floor, including Williams' game-winner.

Four Bison scored double figures: Williams (19); Dockery (14); freshman forward
Shy Odom (Roxbury, Mass./13) and redshirt junior
Steve Settle, III (Glenarden, Md./11). Additionally, Settle pulled down 11 boards, securing his fourth double-double of the season.

With the win, Howard moved to 15-10 (7-1 MEAC) and took sole possession of the first place in the standings after Maryland Eastern Shore fell to Norfolk State, 71-67.

Monday (Feb. 13), the Bison will battle University of Maryland Eastern Shore at The Burr for first place in the MEAC. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
