CLEMSON, S.C. & STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (December 8, 2023) – Howard University women's track & field team wrapped up the weekend with two meets at the Clemson Opener, hosted by Clemson University, and the Seahawk Shootout, hosted by Wagner College.
CLEMSON OPENER
In the field, graduate
Nyagoa Bayak (Westbrook, Mass.) claimed second overall in the high jump, leaping 1.80 meters (5'10.75").
On the track, graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston) and senior
Darci Khan (Stockbridge, Ga.) competed in the 60-meter dash, finishing seventh (7.59) and eighth (7.64), respectively.
Khan, along with fellow classmate
Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.), made the 60-meter hurdles final, earning fourth (8.37) and eighth (8.74), respectively.
SEAHAWK SHOOTOUT
In the field, second-year Bison
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) had a pair of victories in the long jump (5.75 meters) and triple jump (11.88 meters). Junior
Jasmyn Hunter (Mundelein, Ill.) and sophomore
Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) also competed in the long jump (5.72 meters) and triple jump (11.79 meters), respectively, each earning runner up.
Senior
Erin Hatcher (Silver Spring, Md.) took gold in the weight throw, tossing over 60 feet (18.32 meters). Graduate
Zaria Opara (Carnation, Wash.) also competed, placing third overall (15.65 meters).
On the track, Hunter, sophomore
Lauren Thompson (Mableton, Ga.) and newcomers
Leyanis Castillo (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and
Kennedy Ross (Chicago) represented HU in the 4x200 relay, clocking in at 1:43.63 (second overall).
Individually, Thompson and Hunter finished third (8.76) and fourth (8.80), respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles.
Second-year Bison
Jordyn Miller (Mundelein, Ill.) earned runner-up in the 600-meter run, registering a 1:36.00 time.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Jan. 12-13, HU returns after the New Year in Louisville, Ky., for the Rod McCravy Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
